Cricket betting in South Africa

A Test, an ODI and a T20 are different products. The draw exists in a Test and does not exist in a completed T20. The market has to say which match it is pricing.

Cricket betting in South Africa covers the Proteas in Tests, one-day internationals and T20 internationals, plus the SA20 franchise competition and other domestic cricket when it is on the coupon. The format changes the contract. Treat a Test and a T20 as different sports that share a ball.

Test matches

A Test is scheduled for up to five days. The match can be won by either side or drawn. A draw here means the game ran out of time, not a tied score. A tie, with the scores level and the side batting last all out, is rare and is not the same market as the draw unless the coupon says it is.

If you back a side to win a Test, a draw loses that bet on a three-way market. Draw no bet, where it is offered, returns the stake if the match is drawn and pays only if your side wins. Read which of those two you have selected. They are not substitutes.

Sessions and innings runs are separate markets. A bet on the first innings total is judged on that innings, even if the match later turns. Weather can take time out of the match. If you do not know the rules the coupon uses for an abandoned or shortened Test, do not strike a bet that depends on them.

Limited-overs matches

An ODI is 50 overs a side. A T20 is 20 overs a side. The SA20 is a T20 franchise competition played in South Africa. A completed limited-overs match has a winner, with a super over or similar tie-break where the competition uses one. Confirm that the market includes the tie-break if you care about that result. Some markets are settled on the score at the end of regulation overs.

Rain can shorten a limited-overs match. Duckworth-Lewis-Stern, or whatever method the playing conditions name, can set a revised target. Your bet follows the market rules, not a guess about what the target “should” have been. If the match is abandoned, many markets are void and the stake is returned, but that is a rule to read on the coupon rather than a promise this page can make for every market.

Markets you will actually see

Match winner is the starting point. Totals are bets on runs in an innings or in the match. A top-batter market pays on the highest scorer under the dead-heat rules the bookmaker prints. Those rules matter if two players finish level, so read them.

Player markets are settled on the scorecard. A batter who does not bat, or a bowler who does not bowl, is often void rather than lost, but again the printed rule for that market wins. Do not assume a place in the team sheet means the player will bat at the position you expect.

To bat first, and the sign-up credit

Hollywoodbets’ sign-up terms say the R25 bonus cannot be wagered on both markets in the same event. The clause names To Bat First alongside Lucky Numbers High/Low and To Kick-Off First. Backing both sides of the toss, or both sides of who bats first, with that credit is the pattern the clause describes.

The credit also has to be used within 24 hours of account activation, at odds of 5/10 (0.5 decimal) or greater. A very short favourite at 1.20 in European decimals does not meet that minimum. The conversion is on the odds page, and the full offer is on the sign-up offer page.

Before you stake

Check the format, the venue and whether the player you care about is in the named side. Then check that the market is the match, the innings or the player, and not a neighbouring tab. Stake size is a decision you make before the price, as set out in the betting tips.

Questions

Why is the draw priced in Test cricket?

A Test can end in a draw if the side batting last is not bowled out and does not reach the target. That draw is a real result, so a three-way match market includes it.

What is the SA20?

The SA20 is South Africa's franchise T20 competition. It is not a Proteas international. Check the competition name on the coupon before you bet.

Can bonus funds be used on who bats first?

Hollywoodbets' sign-up terms say the bonus cannot be wagered on both markets in the same event. They specifically name To Bat First.
