Bet types explained

The market name decides what has to happen. A single, a handicap and an accumulator can all be about the same match and still be three different bets.

Hollywoodbets lists a market, a price and a stake box. The market name is the contract. These are the contracts South African punters meet most often. Prices below are examples so the arithmetic is visible. They are not prices on a live coupon.

Single

A single is one selection. It wins or it loses. A R50 single at a European decimal of 2.20 returns R110 if it wins, which is R60 profit plus the R50 stake. If it loses, the R50 is lost.

Start here when you are learning a sport. You can see the result without another match having to cooperate. The odds page shows how to read the price itself.

Double, treble and accumulator

A double is two singles joined together. A treble is three. An accumulator is the general name, and on a soccer coupon it is often called a multiple.

All of the legs have to win. The decimal prices are multiplied, then multiplied by the stake.

Example: R10 on three legs at 1.50, 1.80 and 2.00.

Hollywoodbets’ App Store description says the app can cash out soccer multiples. Cash out, where it is offered, is a new price to settle the bet before every leg is finished. It is not guaranteed on every slip, and the amount is whatever the coupon offers at that moment. Read it before you accept it. It will be less than the full potential return, because the bet is no longer required to win outright.

Handicap

A handicap changes the score before your bet is judged. It is used when one side is expected to be clearly stronger, which is common in rugby and in mismatched soccer games.

Example: a team is priced on a -1.5 goal handicap. They must win by two goals or more for that bet to win. A one-goal win is not enough, even though they won the match. The other side on +1.5 can lose by one goal and the bet still wins, because the virtual head start covers that one-goal defeat.

Always read the number and the sign. Minus means that side has to overcome a deficit. Plus means that side is given a start. The rugby and PSL pages show where these markets sit in those sports.

Totals, or over/under

A total is a bet on a number, not on a winner. Over 2.5 goals in soccer wins if the match has three goals or more. Under 2.5 wins if it has two or fewer. There is no draw on a .5 line, because a match cannot have half a goal.

The same shape is used for points in rugby, runs in cricket and other counts. Check the unit. Over 42.5 points in rugby is not the same bet as over 42.5 in a different sport, and it is not a bet on who wins.

Both teams to score

Both teams to score, often shortened to BTTS, wins if each side scores at least once. The match result does not matter. A 3-1 home win and a 1-1 draw are both winners. A 1-0 win is a loser because one side did not score.

It is a separate market from the match result. Combining them into one accumulator leg is a different, harder bet. Read the title.

Double chance and draw no bet

Double chance lets you cover two of the three match-result outcomes, such as home win or draw. The price is shorter than either outcome on its own, because you have removed one way of losing.

Draw no bet refunds the stake if the match is a draw, and otherwise pays on the team you chose. It is not a handicap. A draw is a void, not a win.

Each-way

Each-way is mostly a racing bet. It is two bets of equal stake: one on the horse to win, one on the horse to place. A R20 each-way bet costs R40.

The place part pays a fraction of the win odds, and it pays if the horse finishes in the places the race is paying. Those terms change with the size and type of the race. Read them on that race before you bet. A worked example is on the horse racing page.

Betting both sides

Hollywoodbets’ sign-up terms forbid using the bonus on both markets in the same event. They name Lucky Numbers High/Low, To Bat First and To Kick-Off First as examples, and they reserve the right to treat similar markets the same way. A straight match bet with your own money is a different decision. Using credited funds to back both outcomes is the pattern their terms describe as non-compliant.

If you are still inside the 24-hour window on the R25 credit, read the offer terms before you build a multiple out of very short prices. Legs under 5/10 (0.5 decimal), which is 1.50 in European decimals, do not meet the minimum they publish.

Questions

Does every leg of an accumulator have to win?

Yes. If one leg loses, the accumulator loses. A higher combined price is the payment for needing every selection to win.

What is a handicap bet?

A handicap gives one side a virtual head start. Your bet wins or loses against that adjusted result, not always against the actual scoreline.

Can the Hollywoodbets sign-up credit be used on both outcomes of one match?

No. Hollywoodbets' terms say the bonus cannot be wagered on both markets in the same event, including markets such as to bat first or to kick off first.
